Musically Minded aims to provide a wide variety of music. By doing so, we are able to give teachers and classes access to world music for kids. Teaching kids music from around the world well help them understand the world we live in. In turn, they will be open to the lives and experiences of others as they grow and form relationships with people from all over the world. Kye Kye Kule is a phrase used in West Africa without a direct English translation that is used to get someone’s attention. This traditional song most likely originated in Ghana, but is used all over the world. Use this call and response song to introduce your students to world music while teaching them to mimic rhythms and melodies. Using music in unfamiliar languages doesn’t have to be intimidating. Just do your best pronouncing new words and learning new rhythmic and melodic styles, and your students will do the same. That’s part of the beauty of bringing new music to our class. We all get to learn something together!
